Our Philosophy

Why Just Iowa Honey Is Different

There are many places to buy honey.

At Just Iowa Honey, we believe honey should tell a story.

Every jar reflects a season, a landscape, and the thousands of flowers our bees visited across Iowa. Rather than blending honey together to create the same flavor year after year, we carefully harvest and bottle each apiary separately whenever possible. This allows you to experience the subtle differences that nature creates—from one location to another, from one summer to the next.

We call it tasting Iowa, one spoonful at a time.

A Honey for Every Place

Just as grapes grown in different vineyards produce unique wines, honey develops its own character from the flowers surrounding each apiary.

One location may produce a light, delicate honey with gentle floral notes. Another may yield a richer honey with hints of basswood, clover, or wild prairie blossoms. Weather, rainfall, and bloom cycles all influence the flavor, making every harvest a snapshot of that particular season.

Nature never makes the exact same honey twice.

That's something worth celebrating.

Small Batches.  Never Rushed

We aren't a large commercial packing facility.

We're beekeepers.

From caring for our colonies throughout the year to harvesting, extracting, bottling, labeling, and preparing each order, we remain personally involved every step of the way. Our honey is harvested in small batches, allowing us to preserve the unique qualities of each apiary rather than blending everything into one uniform product.

When you purchase from Just Iowa Honey, you're receiving honey that we've produced ourselves—not honey sourced from other producers.

More Than a Sweetener

Honey has been treasured for thousands of years, not only for its sweetness but also for its remarkable diversity.

Whether drizzled over artisan cheese, stirred into tea, paired with fresh fruit, baked into family recipes, or enjoyed by the spoonful, each varietal offers its own personality.

Our goal is to help people discover that honey can be every bit as interesting and memorable as fine coffee, chocolate, maple syrup, or wine.

Education is Part of Our Mission

One of our greatest joys is helping people better understand honey bees and the remarkable work they do.

We enjoy sharing bee trivia, recipes, tasting notes, and information about crystallization, pollinators, and the fascinating world inside a beehive. We also offer opportunities to compare different apiaries side by side, allowing customers to experience just how much the landscape influences flavor.

The more people understand bees, the more they appreciate the honey they produce.

From Our Family to Yours

Just Iowa Honey began with a love of bees, but it has grown into something much more.

It's about slowing down.

Knowing where your food comes from.  Supporting local agriculture.  Sharing meaningful gifts.

And preserving the simple traditions that connect us to the land and to one another.

Thank you for allowing us to share a small piece of Iowa with you.

We hope every jar reminds you that the very best things are often crafted by hand, guided by nature, and shared with those you love.
